Select three of the 20 'What We Do' issues defined by Amnesty International, and design a series of three cohesive posters that inform people about Amnesty International's work in order to urges them to get involved with the organization.
How can design make complex issues clear and impactful for a general audience?
Objective
Create a powerful, effective, and meaningful message that advocates for the selected issues.
Ensure the message is easily understood by a general audience.
Engage the viewer in a way that prompts them to gasp, reflect, question, assent, protest, recoil, react.
At its most impactful, the poster should serve as a dynamic catalyst for change.
Solution
Designed a series of three posters on sexual and reproductive rights, child human rights, and older people's rights. Each black-and-white illustration highlights a body part often seen as vulnerable— the uterus, brain, and fist—enhanced with a colorful flower to symbolize strength and beauty that deserves equal human rights and attention. With bold hand-written titles drawing attention and typographical hierarchy guiding the viewer through the narrative, the design invites reflection and deeper engagement with the issues.

Issue Selection
I focused on selecting issues that were cohesive and interconnected to create a unified and impactful poster series. I chose sexual and reproductive rights, child human rights, and older people's rights because they represent three key groups—women, children, and the elderly—highlighting human rights from different population perspectives.

During the process, I explored multiple styles, including illustration-focused, text-focused, and text-based illustrations, all centered around the theme of “people”.

Series 2
Refinement
I chose Series 2 for further fidelity because of its potential of the contrast between simplicity and detail. I also preferred that it highlights strength within perceived weakness rather than focusing simply on vulnerability. To enhance cohesion and better align the hand-written titles with the illustrations, I adjusted the fist composition in the "Older People’s Rights" poster and refined the text layout in the series.

Color Experimentation
I selected the color palettes that fit each group: bright pinks and magentas for women, youthful oranges and greens for children, calm cyans and blues for older people.
Then I experimented with different color combinations: dark vs. light backgrounds, colored vs. uncolored outlines and texts, and coloring vs. non-coloring of flowers.
The results showed that dark backgrounds reduced illustration detail; black titles were more compelling than colored ones; coloring flowers and small text enhanced readability and interest.
Week 3
Final Revisions
Through critiques and deeper one-on-one feedback, I made the following final revisions:
Restructured the texts using vertical lines, changed the font to Helvetica, enlarged the data, and aligned all elements.
Adjusted the size of the three body organs to match.
Reverted to the lowered fist to emphasize strength within “weakness.
Better aligned the handwritten titles with the outline curves.
These changes made the entire series more cohesive and visually balanced.
Our rights to control and make decisions over our own bodies are being challenged.
